Our factory tour offers an insightful experience, starting with an explanation of the origins of Urushi and the Urushi tree. You will be guided through the process of how the sap from the Urushi tree is refined into black or red Urushi, with detailed insights into the steps and challenges involved, as you observe the production process firsthand.

Additionally, as an option, you can also participate in a lecture or workshop at our Urushi hub, “Und.” located on the 3rd floor of the factory. We will present our efforts in tree planting activities, our various initiatives to promote Urushi, and how we aim to expand the use of Urushi, all while showcasing visual content to help deepen your understanding. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a hands-on workshop, such as applying Urushi to a surface or learning the technique of “Fuki Urushi” (wipe-on Urushi).

Furthermore, we regularly invite external instructors to host workshops on a variety of topics, including Kintsugi, Urushi painting, woodworking, natural dyeing, and Urushi dyeing, offering an even richer experience for participants.

2. Fuki Urushi Workshop (45 minutes)

Price: 6,600 yen (tax included)/1 person

Content: Fuki-Urushi (wipe-on Urushi) Workshop: Participants will have the chance to experience applying Urushi to chopsticks. Since only one layer of Urushi can be applied per day due to the curing process, this workshop offers a single-layer application experience.

Content:

• Visit the 1st-floor shop and factory.
• A lecture in the 3rd-floor workspace with a video presentation.
• Fuki Urushi (wipe-off Urushi) workshop: Experience applying Urushi to chopsticks. Urushi is applied to the wood, then carefully wiped off, and left to dry — a traditional technique that is repeated in layers over time.
  Since only one layer can be applied per day, this workshop offers a hands-on introduction to the first step in that process.

*A plan to purchase a Fuki Urushi Kit (domestic) or Urushino ippo Fuki (overseas) and continue the rest at home.

6. Student Study Tour & Group Plan (Factory Tour + Urushi Talk, 45–60 minutes)

Price: 1,500 yen (tax included)/1 person

Target: High school students and above. Available only for school bookings.

Notice Regarding Reservations and Fees

• Starting June 15, 2025, tours will require a minimum of two participants.
  Solo participants are still welcome; however, the fee will be 1.5 times the regular rate. We appreciate your understanding.

• Even for individual reservations, please note that you may be joined by other guests if there are multiple bookings during the same time slot.

For Customers Requesting English Guidance

For this tour, we offer English guidance provided by our in-house English-speaking staff. Unlike outsourced interpreters, our staff are well-acquainted with the details of our tours, so you’re in good hands!

Please note that English guidance is available as a paid option (¥11,000). This fee is per group, not per person.

Cancellation Policy

• Up to 2 days before the tour date: 50% of the fee

• 1 day before the tour: 70% of the fee
• Same day or no-show: 100% of the fee

If the tour is cancelled due to circumstances on our side, a full refund will be issued.
